Tonight Josephine – the cocktail bar of the moment

Image: Tonight Josephine

Tonight Josephine is THE cocktail bar of the moment that’s got everyone in London talking and for all the right reasons. If you haven’t heard of this little gem, it’s a short distance from Waterloo station, which is particularly handy as you will definitely be indulging in more than one cocktail when you see how many fabulous choices are on the menu!

Boujee Decor

The décor is the first main feature that will grab your attention and it’s an Instagrammers absolute dream photo opportunity. From the iridescent walls, to the rose covered ceiling ‘lady garden’ area, to the toilets which have celebrity mug shots on the doors such as Paris Hilton and Justin Beiber. Whoever designed this bar was a real genius as I have never seen anything quite like it before and is such good fun.  As soon as you walk through the door you are greeted by large pink neon installations and a gorgeous sweet smell in the air. The bar seating area is the prettiest I have probably ever come across and is a girly heaven with a real 80s Miami Vice vibe.

Cocktails galore!

Décor aside, the main reason you go to a cocktail bar usually is for the drinks themselves and you will not be disappointed in the selection here that’s for sure. There is also a slight French theme running throughout this bar. The staff have cute French slogans on their shirts and the reservation cards on the tables are decorated in sassy French phrases and quirky captions. Also, there is a fabulous cocktail called ‘No time for Napoleon’ which is topped with a French macaron which is a really nice touch.

One of my favourite cocktails though was the ‘Violet Femme’ which is a Bombay Sapphire gin, with violet liqueur, fresh lemon juice and Parma Violet sweets which I absolutely love!

Price wise you are looking at around £10 a drink but if you get there early enough they offer a 2 for the price of one happy hour every day of the week between 5-7pm.

Tonight Josephine is fabulously pink and feminine and I definitely recommend visiting – just make sure to get there fairly early. Not just for the great happy hour deals, but to be able to find a table area, as after around 8pm they start to get really busy. It is not the largest of bars but this is a great place for pre-drinks before heading off to a night out in London.

Brunch at The Ivy, Brighton

I have always associated the Ivy restaurant in London’s Covent garden with celebrities and luxury dining and was a place I wanted to try out one day. So, when I found out that they were branching out and opening a Brighton restaurant I was so excited and of course I had to make a reservation straight away.

The Menu

There are a few menus to choose from starting with breakfast, followed by brunch, then lunch, afternoon tea and then finally dinner. There is also a bar which you can sit at sipping cocktails throughout the day if you fancy a little shopping break.

The restaurant

We were greeted at the reception and shown to a lovely corner seat – gorgeous velvet fabric and plumped with cushions of course. The interior design of this restaurant is literally so beautiful and it really has to be seen to explain it. The walls are painted in bold, beautiful and tropical prints but there is still an overall art deco feel to the place which is a fab mix. The most exciting room though had to be the bathrooms. As soon as I walked into the room I was blown away but then I should have expected this really. The fabulous dusky pink seating area in the centre of the room (I literally need one of these in my life), the music, being surrounded by mirrors with gorgeous lighting and to top it off, you have your own personal cubical, basin slash beauty station.

Overall Verdict

Overall though if I am really honest, the décor was more exciting to me than the food and the service wasn’t quite how I expected it to be. I personally don’t think I will go back for a meal again but I would like to try the cocktail bar. I have heard excellent food reviews though from others, so perhaps it was just the meal that I chose. The time of my reservation meant it was the brunch menu and I had the Ivy full English breakfast. That aside, I had a lovely experience visiting this restaurant and am pleased I was able to go and try it out.

The beautiful bathroom – love these little beauty stations

Morning treats at Peggy Porschen

It is probably one of the most popular images that you will see on Instagram at the moment but with good reason! The Peggy Porschen cake parlour truly is one of a kind. I have been past this shop several times over the years but have never actually visited, but after seeing so many fabulous photographs online I just had to go and see if it was as amazing as everyone was saying.

Located in Belgravia, and a short walk from Victoria Station, as you start to get closer you can see the beautiful pink building in the distance. It is covered in pretty hanging flowers and pastel colour wooden bee hives by the front door, and there is a selection of tables outside the front. The road itself has a lot of lovely stores, many of which are covered in large flowers which is so nice to see and an Instgrammers dream for the perfect photo opportunity! If you visit Peggy Porschen I recommend walking up the street to have a look around the area as it really feels like a secret little part of London. Even the local chemist is covered in hanging lilac wisteria.

We were seated very quickly and were handed a pretty menu to look through but we decided to go into the actual store to have a look at the rows of cakes that were available to help with the decision making. Choosing which one to have is the hard part!  There were rows and rows of stunning cupcakes decorated with real attention to detail, as well as beautiful whole cakes which you can have a generous slice of. I decided on a slice of the English strawberry and champagne cake which was so light and delicious I was really impressed. Alongside this I had the classic English pot of tea. I love how all of the plates and tableware are all pink, running along with the whole colour scheme of the brand. At the moment there is a special Summer collection as part of the menu, including a really sweet range around bees, named Queen Bee. You can view this new special range here

I really loved the whole experience of visiting Peggy Porschen and definitely recommend it if you are ever in London.

London is in full Bloom!

It’s official. London is dressed to impress at the moment and is head to toe in flowers. Everywhere you turn there are wall murals, huge window displays and doorways covered in beautiful bright, colourful flowers. Thanks to the Chelsea Flower show at the end of May, and the Royal wedding recently, retailers and restaurants are all taking part in the action. Retailers know that if they have a stunning flower wall feature, everyone is going to flock to it for that perfect Instagram photo opportunity (which I am guilty of myself!)

It is so lovely to see and I am really enjoying being around London at the moment. I just had to share with you some of my favourite displays that I have come across within the last month.

Hope you enjoy and let me know in the comments what your favourite flower spots in London are xx

An afternoon at Jo Malone

The iconic branded cream box, wrapped in black grosgrain ribbon and the crisp black tissue paper inside that has been spritzed with one of their beautiful scents. This is just one of my favourite parts of shopping at Jo Malone. Known for their elegance and style, Jo Malone is a British brand, specialising in fragrance, candles and beautiful, body products.

I spent such a lovely afternoon at the Brighton store this weekend trying out the products. You are always welcomed by such friendly and professional staff in Jo Malone stores and it really adds to the whole high end, luxury shopping experience. In the middle of the store there is a table displaying samples of each scent for you to try and let me tell you, choosing a favourite is no easy task.

We were seated at the back section of the store which was decorated in the usual monochrome styling that they are so well recognised for. My mum and I were treated to a complimentary glass of British sourced bubbly and a beautiful hand and arm massage testing out a selection of products. The staff are so knowledgeable and it was really interesting to learn about the huge range of scents and ingredients that are available. Even the names of the scents are fabulously decadent – how could anyone be able to resit smelling of Lime Basil & Mandarin, Orange Blossom, or Peony & blush suede?!

Overall we both felt amazing when we left the store with our new goodies. My skin felt soft, pampered and smelled gorgeous. I learned today that using a body cream together with a perfume layered on the top makes such a difference and a much longer lasting scent. You can also mix and match different fragrances to create your own bespoke design as the scents work together rather than clashing.

I chose a body and hand wash in one of Jo Malone’s best selling classic scents Pomegranate Noir. This is the description that can be found on their website for this particular product which is absolutely divine:

Our refreshing Body & Hand Wash with meadow foam seed gently cleanses and deliciously scents your skin with enigmatic Pomegranate Noir. Ruby-rich juices of pomegranate, raspberry and plum are spiked with pink pepper and laced with Casablanca lily and spicy woods. The enhanced formula helps leave body and hands feeling conditioned and soft. Its crystal clear gel transforms into a rich lather and its uplifting fragrance fills the bathroom, immersing you in delicate scent.

For those who haven’t shopped at Jo Malone before, you can full their full collection here.
