Skincare review: Pixi Beauty

Pixi Beauty have been a favourite brand of beauty and skincare bloggers for a while now and there’s a good reason for this. They very kindly sent me two of their latest skincare ranges to try, both of which I have used daily for over 30 days each to really test the products out. So I wanted to put together this blog post to compare the two ranges and to let you know what items I enjoyed using the most and what I would recommend. There are some real game changers in these collections that you just have to try and I can’t wait to tell you about them!

Trying out new skincare products

In the past I’ve been guilty of getting stuck in a rut with my skincare routine and have had the mindset of ‘if it’s already working there’s no need to try and change anything’. But since I started blogging, I’ve realised not to limit myself and to introduce new products into my skincare routine. I think the worry of a product causing a reaction on my skin has always been at the back of my mind and that has put me off trying new brands in the past. The Liz Earle cleanse and polish has been my go to cleanser for as long as I can remember but as our skin changes over time and the beauty industry moves forward, it’s definitely good to test out new brands and products to find out what else works well for us. So here are my thoughts on the 2 new skincare launches by Pixi Beauty.

1 – The Glow Tonic Collection.

The first range that Pixi sent out to me was the glow tonic collection. The press kits they send out are always amazing and are packaged so beautifully. This was a massive box that was delivered and I was so excited to start using all of the items. So here is what was inside the kit –

  1. A gorgeous, soft face cloth
  2. DetoxifEYE de-puffing eye patches
  3. Glow tonic cleansing gel
  4. Glow tonic exfoliating toner
  5. Glow tonic radiance serum
  6. T Zone peel off mask
  7. Glow mud mask
  8. 3 brightening sheet masks
  9. On the Glow moisture stick
  10. Phenomenal Gel

I told you the kit was huge and now you can understand what I meant!

Hero products in the range

As I mentioned before, I’ve used Liz Earle Cleanser for years which is cream based so it was quite a different experience using the Glow Tonic cleanser which is a cooling gel but I absolutely love this product. It’s refreshing and a really nice alternative to use in the hotter Summer months. Pixi are famous for their toners and so I wasn’t surprised to find that I loved using the glow tonic as well. I used this daily after cleansing and it left my skin feeling really clean and bright.

Serums – my latest skincare obsession…

The next stage of my routine was using the Glow Tonic serum. This is not something that I’ve ever used in my skincare routine before and I wasn’t sure exactly if it would make a difference or not. I can officially say that I am converted and will always use a serum now as they make a HUGE difference. This helps to gently exfoliate the skin whilst hydrating and nourishing. It also softens, refines and restores radiance to give you smooth, balanced skin. I’ve discovered that serums are such a game changer and I wish I found them sooner!

The bottle has a pipette dropper in the lid which you can use to apply a couple of drops of the product directly onto the skin. This serum is a little sticky but it dries down quickly, ready for you to add your moisturiser for the final stage.  Again, I’ve mainly always used cream based moisturisers and the Phenomenal Gel was a new experience for me. It was a little sticky too but it leaves a nice refreshing feel on the skin.

Glow tonic additional products..

The rest of the items that were in the kit are not something that you would use on a daily basis but they are perfect for a pamper night or to give your skin an extra little boost throughout the month. My favourite product from these additional skincare items just has to be the DetoxifEYE de-puffing eye patches. If you suffer from tired eyes, dark circles or puffy under eye bags this is for you. I keep these in the fridge and use them a couple of times a week. These little eye patches are infused with cucumber and gold and are a soothing treat for popping under the eyes in the evening.

Final verdict – glow tonic collection

I have to say that after using this range for over 30 days, my skin really did look a lot brighter and glowing. I enjoyed the gel based products and the refreshing feeling that you get from using this range. It smells nice and not too overpowering which is great but if you are not a fan of sticky textures I would perhaps be more inclined to go for the Vitamin C range which I will tell you about next…

2 – The Vitamin C collection

The second kit that Pixi Beauty sent out to me was the latest Vitamin C range. This was a cute tub, stuffed full of skincare goodies and it had my name on it. I just love anything personalised like this and after receiving the first range you can appreciate how excited I was to test this out! So here were the items inside this kit:

  1. Vitamin C Juice cleanser
  2. Tonic brightening Toner
  3. Brightening Serum
  4. Vitamin C Caviar Balm leave on mask
  5. Moisturising lotion

The power of Vitamin C in skincare..

Vitamin C is one of THE hardest working skincare ingredients out there. It provides a brightening effect on the skin, gives you powerful antioxidant protection and adds a really refreshing radiance quality which is just perfect for skincare. It also boosts your skins collagen production which will give you firmer, more plump skin, whilst smoothing out those annoying fine lines and wrinkles. The final result is anti ageing and aims to give you younger looking skin – and who doesn’t want that!

Hero products in the range

The first product that caught my eye in this range has to be the cleanser, purely because of the bottle. It has a press pump feature which I am a little bit in love with. It just makes everything so much easier and is quick to use with cotton pads. This cleanser is a liquid, so again, something new for me but I will 100% be re-purchasing this when it has run out as it is an absolute must have. The glow tonic is very similar to that of the glow range and is also another staple item from this collection.

Moving onto the Vitamin C brightening Serum in this range. I prefer this to the glow serum as it is not sticky and it soaks into the skin beautifully. I have been using this daily and I could really notice the benefits in my skin just after a couple of days.

The moisturising lotion is a thin creamy consistency and this also sinks into the skin really easily. I’m not a huge fan of the fragrance of this though if I’m honest. It wants to be a zesty, fruity scent which I would have loved but there’s something just not quite right about it. That aside, it feels gorgeous on the skin and is a great moisturising product.

Final verdict – Vitamin C collection

After using the Vitamin C collection and the Glow collection daily for over 2 months and really comparing the two, my favourite has to be the Vitamin C range. It has honestly made my skin feel amazing and I was so impressed with the cleanser, that it’s right up there as one of my all time favourite products.

Both ranges are perfect for this hot Summer weather that we have been having and for keeping your skin hydrated, bright, glowing and fresh. Pixi Beauty has really pulled it out of the bag for these new skincare collections!

You can purchase all of the above items mentioned in this blog post and more on the Pixi Beauty website HERE , in the flagship London store, in UK retailers such as Boots, M&S or online at Cult Beauty.

The new Too Faced concealer that I cannot live without

I’m always on the hunt for a good concealer as I struggle with dark circles under my eyes and nothing ever really covers them properly. Until now that is! I recently picked up the new Born this way, Super coverage concealer by Too Faced and let me tell you, it’s a game changer. I’ve been hearing nothing but good reviews for this product so of course I just had to try it out for myself.

This has been so popular since it’s launch that it’s now ranked number 2 in the world (after the famous Tarte Shape tape) and has everyone talking about it.

Packaging

First of all, I just have to mention the amount of product you get with this. The bottle is 15ml which is a really decent size for a concealer. It almost looks like a foundation bottle and is a slightly smaller version to the born this way foundation. Up until now I have been using the Revolution Pro concealer which only last for 5 minutes and it can be a bit a pain having to keep buying replacements. So, I’m loving the generous size of this product.

Coverage

This leads me to the main reason why I wanted to write this blog post. The coverage is INCREDIBLE.

The adaptor wand makes applying this concealer really easy and I’m finding that a little goes a long way. The head is a diamond shape which helps to sculpt out the under eye area and I’ve also been highlighting my face with it.

It is quite a thick consistency but it has a lovely silky texture and it doesn’t cake around the eyes. I like the way this product dries quickly and leaves a smooth finish too. It can even cover tattoos so that will give you an indication of what a wonder product this is.

There are 20 shades to choose from and I went for ‘Snow’ as I like my concealer to be pretty light to try and combat the darkness as much as possible. In terms of price, this retails for £24 which I feel is fair for the quality and it will last quite a while considering you don’t need to use too much each time.

Final Verdict

I think that I’ve found myself a new favourite make up item with this and will definitely be re-purchasing it when I have finished the bottle. The coverage is so impressive and it’s making a huge difference to my finished make up looks and I’m so pleased I’ve finally found something that actually covers my dark circles! Thank you Too Faced make up gods! I’ve also been enjoying using it for contouring which has been equally as good.  You can buy Too Faced products directly from their website HERE, in store, Debenhams or online retailer Cult Beauty.

Riviera – The latest eye pallet by Anastasia Beverly Hills

Image: Cult Beauty

I haven’t been this excited about a new beauty product release in ages. As soon as I discovered the latest eye pallet by Anastasia Beverly Hills I literally couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! I actually first saw this on one of Jeffree Star’s YouTube videos and instantly fell in love with it. This release was kind of unexpected too as ABH didn’t really put out a big press release but started dropping hints on Instagram that something new was coming. They haven’t really had a pallet with colours like this before either so it’s great to see something slightly different from the brand.

These pallets are not the cheapest at £46 but you are not just paying for the name with this, you are paying for the quality which is fabulous. I was lucky to get this discounted with online beauty retailer Cult Beauty who stock ABH and other big brands. I was really excited to test this pallet out and to see if it was worth the money or not, so keep reading to find out my thoughts…

The theme

This pallet is all to do with summer, and is giving me pure south of France/St Tropez vibes! The seaside theme runs right through this product, from the names of the shades right down to the sailor inspired striped case. I really like the Insta-worthy chic packaging of this pallet and it’s a pretty addition to any dressing table/makeup collection.

The shades

The pan contains 14 shades. There are 8 soft mattes, 4 shimmering metallics and 2 duo chrome pressed pigments. The shades range from bold pinks, cool neutrals, ocean blues and glittering golds. I was getting to a point recently where I was becoming so bored of neutral eye shadow shades and there were no new releases that were catching my eye, but this is such a gorgeous new colour pallet for the Summer. I get that some of the colours might look slightly scary to some people – in particular the bright pink, but please don’t be put off by this. Bright pinks can be blended with other shades to create a really lovely warm tone eye look.

I’m loving the shade names which as I said are all in keeping with the nautical theme.

Choose between matte white ‘Sails’, eggshell pink ‘Estate’, mustard ‘Cabana’, peachy ‘Coastline’, hot pink ‘Bahamas’, muted pink ‘Monte Carlo’, royal purple ‘Cannes’, chocolatey ‘Palm’, duo chrome bronze ‘Yacht’ , metallic sky blue ‘Seychelles’, warm pink ‘Palermo’, silvery lilac ‘Seaside’, golden ‘Inheritance’ and ocean-hued ‘Mediterranean’

The quality

Anastasia Beverly Hills palettes are well known for how pigmented their eye shadows are and this is such a winner for me in terms of the quality. I’m so impressed with how beautifully they blend out and the intensity of the pigment – a little really goes a long way! This pallet includes a dual ended brush and the bristles are lovely and soft. This brush gives a sleek professional finish and you don’t need to be a makeup artist to get a good result from using this. My favourite shade has to be the glittery turquoise ‘Seychelles’ as it’s such an intense colour that really pops. I have been wearing this in a few different ways, such as blended under the bottom lash line, in the inner corner of the eye and blended on the lid with other shades.

Plus some of the shades double up as highlighters. Dust Yacht above the brow bone for an illuminating finish. Or for a hint of blush, try Bahamas for flushed and fabulous cheeks.

This is definitely going to be my go to pallet of the summer and I cannot wait to try out lots of new eye looks with this!

I Heart Revolution – The latest Glitter eye Palettes

I can never resist an eye shadow pallet and when I came across the new glitter pallets by I Heart Revolution I instantly fell in love with them!! They reminded me of the Polly Pocket toys that I used to have as a child and the inner girlie girl in me just had to try out this collection.

Packaging and shades..

These eye shadow pallets are a good size and the outer cases have gorgeous sparkly particles and little glittery hearts or stars that swirl around the lid as you move them around. These are a ten out of ten for packaging and I haven’t seen anything like this in an eye pallet before.

There are 3 options available in this collection –

Starry Eyed – this has a pretty turquoise case and inside there are 7 dreamy metallic and 2 matte shades. This option includes a mixture of deep blues and greens intertwined with bronze and golds. This is the option that I loved the most in the range.

One True Love – this is a candy pink case which includes 3 gorgeous matte shades and 6 striking shimmers. These are a sparkly mix of golds, rose golds, deep burgundies and popping pinks.

Fortune Seeker – this is a cute lilac case and has 4 wearable matte shades and 5 stunning shimmers. This option includes a warm mix of bronzes, rich burgundies, light browns, burnt copper and pale lavender.

Quality..

I Heart Revolution is a really affordable brand and you can always guarantee a decent price point for their products. For a drug store brand, these eye shadow pallets are really good quality and blend nicely with minimal fall out. The shades in each pallet are really wearable and they work well together to create gorgeous looks for both day and night, so you will get great use out of these. Plus, at £10 per pallet they are a bargain. They remind me of the Huda Beauty obsessions pallets which I featured in my Christmas gift guide HERE although those are double the price of these.

Matching Lipsticks..

To go alongside this beautiful pallet, I also picked up a couple of lipsticks which go perfectly with this range. As I chose the turquoise case option, I decided to get a couple of shades from the mystical mermaid lipstick collection also by I Heart Revolution. This range has two seashell mattes, two glistening metallics and one satin finish. You can use them alone or layer over the top of any lip colour which is great. These lipsticks are in beautiful turquoise packaging with mermaid scales imprinted on the bullet of the lipstick. How stunning are these!

You can purchase any of the products mentioned in this blog post directly from the I Heart Revolution website HERE or at most Superdrug stores throughout the UK.
