Trend Report: Logomania

Logos and branding are back and in a big way! Shown all over the runways the last few seasons, we are seeing a huge trend in the collections for styles with large logos, monogrammed details and boldly branded pieces.

Logomania is not a new trend; it’s something that comes back into fashion time and time again. It was particularly a hit in the 80s and 90s and designers such Chanel were leading the way back then just as much as they are killing it today.  We are seeing designers at Burberry and Fendi  are evolving this by bringing out newly designed logos, updating their monogramme details, moving into the new age of fashion and having a fresh take on this trend.

I personally am loving the Logomania trend and I’ve always been drawn to it in previous years. Some of the vintage 90s Chanel pieces that were heavily branded with their famous interlocking CCs were truly amazing so if you are able to get hold of any vintage pieces from those decades you will have found some absolute gems that will stand the test of time for many years to come. They are such investment pieces. I had the original Christian Dior saddle bag when they first launched this style in the early 2000s and let me tell you, it was not at the £2k price point that it is today! Unfortunately I wore that bag to it’s absolute death but if I still had it, it would be a fabulous vintage piece that would work well with any outfit today.

See below for my top 6 fashion brands to go to for embracing the logomania trend.

That’s the beauty of this trend – you can either invest in ready to wear pieces (which are usually quite expensive and hard to get hold of without a decent SA) or you can be involved in the trend with the use of accessories such as bags, scarves, small leathers, shoes or hats which are often a much more affordable option.

Some people are not a fan of logos as they prefer to buy an item of clothing for the quality alone, without the need to broadcast who designed it. But for me, the more logos the better at the moment! Traditionally in fashion though, the trend of flashing large logos everywhere usually then moves into a more basic, simplistic look instead which is often a refreshing change after being saturated with designer names all over the place.

Share in the comments below if you like this trend and what your favourite designer logo is. What was your favourite piece from my selection too? I would love to know!

Prêt-à-Portea: The Dior couture collection

Back in early March, I went to the Christian Dior:Designer of Dreams exhibition at the V&A museum (you can check my blog post about it here). So when I discovered that The Berkeley hotel in London were hosting a special Prêt-à-Portea that was inspired by the exhibition I just had to go and complete the set!

The venue

The Berkeley hotel is based in the heart of Knightsbridge and is the ultimate luxury venue. They are well known for their legendary afternoon tea experiences too. They have 2 collections per year that are inspired by the world of fashion to reflect the latest catwalk trends, colours and designs. Previous collections have seen them teaming up with other designer brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Moschino and Manolo Blahnik.

This special collection focuses on the iconic designs of Christian Dior, transformed into beautifully decorated biscuits and miniature cakes. Each piece is inspired from Diors’s fashion history which I absolutely love!

The afternoon tea is held in the Collins room which is a really peaceful space, decorated in soft lilacs, silvers, marble and mirrors. There is also a garden room section which has a lovely light feel with the surrounding windows.

A high tea to remember..

We arrived at the hotel feeling excited about the afternoon ahead. From the moment we arrived, the service was fabulous. We were shown to our seating area and our server started off explaining to us the idea around the collection, as well as information about what we could expect from our tea experience. We started off with drinks and there are so many varieties of tea that you can choose, from a selection of different white, green, yellow, black, tisane, and oolong tea options.

The savoury selection..

First to be presented to the table was a plate of beautifully cut finger sandwiches, each with individual flavours, fillings and breads. Alongside this, there was a selection of beautiful canapes. They almost looked too good to eat! I loved the presentation of these and it was fun to try all of the different options.

The sweet selection..

But let’s be honest, we all know the best part of a high tea is the sweet section! Following the savoury section, out came the stunning three tiered display of the Christian Dior sweet treats. Christian Dior cakes – isn’t this just every fashionistas dream combination?!

On the top tier we had a rose pink Miss Dior perfume bottle shaped cake. This was lychee and raspberry flavour and was topped with a gorgeous silver bow. Also on the top tier were 2 iced biscuits – a single J’adior slingback heel and the iconic bar jacket. I have been lusting after these heels for a while now and am thinking that I have to add them to my collection! Well they do say things come in threes after all…

On the middle tier, we had a pavlova and raspberry jam cake that was inspired by a dress design. We also had the Junon gown fromage blanc and cassis jelly encased with scallops of white chocolate and it was sprinkled with edible glitter. They were like little works of art – just stunning!

The bottom tier had the classic Lady Dior handbag which was so delicious. It was red chocolate sponge inside with an iced outer casing and it looked just like the real thing! Also on this lower tier was a pretty little coconut marshmallow cake which was decorated with a white sugar bow.

Overall verdict..

I love spending an afternoon having a high tea and this is one of my favourite experiences. I have wanted to try the Berkeley afternoon tea for a long time as always love to see the latest fashion inspired collection that they come up with. Their collections always look so fabulous and so being able to attend this special Dior inspired one, after visiting the exhibition was like the cherry on the cake..see what I did there 😉

Jokes aside, it was such a lovely afternoon and I highly recommend it. I’m never a huge fan of the sandwiches but these were nice and not so much that you couldn’t then enjoy the sweets section which you can sometimes find with afternoon teas. The sweet selection was just perfect and I enjoyed every item from this selection.

The Christian Dior exhibition at the V&A Museum

The V&A Museum has done it again, hosting the most popular fashion exhibition so far this year. I was really excited to attend this weekend to the now sold out exhibition, titled Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams and I think it’s probably one of the best that I have been to so far!

The V&A museum previously featured the famous Alexander McQueen exhibition as well as the history of Balenciaga which were both fabulous, so I knew that the latest Dior show was going to be a really spectacular event. It definitely didn’t disappoint!

A walk through fashion history..

The Christian Dior exhibition looked at the history of the designer and his work from 1947 to the present day and how he became one of the most influential designers of all time. It also featured the works of the other designers that have lead the global fashion house such as John Galliano who’s runway shows were always so amazing when he was with the house of Dior.

Dressing like royalty..

There were a lot more rooms than I expected, each beautifully decorated in traditional Dior style. We started out with his earliest pieces including the dresses that he made for royalty such as Princess Margaret. This led us into a room which had elegant white columns and regal styles. The walls in this room were made to look like ornate wooden panelling and in a a mini ball room setting. It was like stepping back in time with the voluminous dresses, tiny nipped in waists, gorgeous silks and exaggerated ruffles.

Themed Rooms..

Each room had it’s own theme. We walked through a stunning garden inspired room where the ceiling was covered in hanging lilac flowers which were all intricately cut out of paper. The dress styles fit perfectly with this flower garden theme and were printed and embellished with the prettiest blooms.

Another room featured purely white designs which showed the technical shapes of the garments. These were showing how dress would be finally produced before the final materials and details were added. It was amazing to see the level of detail and the skill that goes into making a Dior outfit.

Another room showcased outfits that had all been inspired by travel and different cultures, from Egyptian sphinx, to Mexican ruffled dresses, to Indian and Japanese influenced pieces. We then moved into a long hall of accessories which I loved, being a handbag and shoe fanatic!

There was an interesting section which displayed the perfume bottles that had been designed throughout the years. Beauty being another part of the Dior brand.

The final wonder room..

The final room we walked into was just out of this world. They really saved the best until last. This room housed the most amazing couture pieces from huge gowns, to styles that have been worn on the red carpet and even the outfits worn in the Dior perfume adverts. In the centre of the room was a circular plinth and the ceiling above it kept changing. One minute it was beautiful renaissance style art work, the next minute it turned into a sky with shooting stars and constellations. The whole room darkened around us and the walls sparkled while soothing sounds were being played into the room. It was such a magical experience and it was a bit like being in a sensory room.

Overall thoughts..

Literally every room was a new and exciting treat to walk into and it was such a fantastic exhibition. I cannot recommend this show enough and if you have been lucky to secure a ticket you will love it like I did. The final room was sensational and my favourite part to walk around.

Let me know your thoughts if you have been!
