New release: Dior Micro handbags

Keeping up with the mini handbag trend, Christian Dior have recently put their own stamp on it by releasing their new Micro handbag range. Selecting some of their most iconic handbag styles, they now have teeny tiny versions available designed to fit every day essentials from airpods, to a few bank cards and a lipstick. Dior have seen the potential for taking this trend and making it their own.

The trend

It has to be Jacquemus’ that really set this mini bag trend off. I wrote a previous blog post about this back in 2019 HERE  and since then, we have only seen mini bags to continue to grow in popularity. Following this, we have been hit by a global pandemic which has really had an influence over the way we dress. Where we would once take out a larger handbag full of items (including the kitchen sink in some cases), more of us have downsized the type of bag that we take out with us, and the love for mini bags has risen dramatically. They are no longer seen as a frivolous gimmick accessory, but they are quickly taking centre stage in our wardrobe.

The Dior micro bag collection

The collection features four miniature versions of Dior’s House bags, including Lady Dior, 30 Montaigne, the Dior Caro and Saddle. Here are the details about each style –

Micro Lady Dior  – this is available in lambskin, in black, a gorgeous cloud blue, mint green and a pretty rose pink. It features the usual internal flap over detail, cannage topstitching as well as the hanging ‘D.I.O.R.’ charms. There 1 interior compartment

Micro 30 Montaigne –  this is available in calf skin and the same colourways as the Lady Dior option. It’s in the signature boxy silhouette and the flap is embellished with an antique gold-finish metal ‘CD’ clasp which was inspired by the seal of a Christian Dior perfume bottle. The miniature style has an adjustable leather shoulder strap and can be worn over the shoulder or crossbody. There is also 1 interior compartment, 1 card slot and a back pocket. This is personally my favourite out of the micro bag collection.

Micro Dior Caro – this is available in calf skin in a black and the cloud blue with the Cannage stitching.. The bag features a flap adorned with a ‘CD’ clasp. The miniature shape’s removable and adjustable chain shoulder strap allows it to be worn both during the day or for an evening look. There is 1 interior compartment and a back pocket

Micro Saddle bag – his is available in goat skin in a black or rose colourway. It’s iconic design features a Saddle flap with a ‘D’ stirrup, and a ‘CD’ signature on each side of the strap. The micro saddle bag can be personalized with different embroidered shoulder straps to add a different look. It has 1 interior compartment too.

Trend Report: Bucket Hats

Bucket hats have been back on the scene for a while and they don’t appear to be going anywhere any time soon. All of the major fashion houses are involved with the trend but the brand that really brought these back into the limelight for me was Prada with their nylon version which is available in an amazing colour selection. Bucket hats can be a bit of a marmite fashion accessory though – you’ll either love them or hate them and they haven’t always had the best reputation. Unlike other types of headwear like beanies, fedoras, or berets, buckets have struggled to reach the same level of mainstream appeal. But as the high end designers continue to push this style, the more they are becoming acceptable and even coveted items.

A step back in time..

The bucket hat originated in the 1900s and were typically made from wool or tweed, worn by Irish fishermen and farmers as protection from the rain. It’s has had several comebacks since then and whether they bring back memories of Kevin and Perry, the 60s mods, the 90s rave culture or from the hip hop scene, the bucket hat is once again the accessory piece to be seen in.

Revival..

Prada tried to bring the trend back in 2005 but it never quite took off. Moving forward into Spring/Summer 2018, Chanel featured bucket hats on the runway and they also appeared again in Dior’s Autumn/Winter 2019 collection. Since then, Prada has had a huge success with bucket hats and the trend has branched out with various other designers including them in their accessory collections.

The catwalk presence along with the huge popularity on Instagram has also helped to kick start everyone’s interest again. Celebs such as Rhianna and Billie Eilish and many more have been wearing these countless times also adding to the appeal of the bucket hat being back in fashion and the style to be seen in.

A trend or a new classic?

So what is it about the bucket hat that has everyone excited again? It could be because they are not age restrictive – anyone from teenagers to the more mature fashionista can look stylish wearing one. They also go with literally everything and are so easy to wear. A basic relaxed shirt and jeans combo paired with a bucket hat can easily top off the look, or added with loungewear for a casual street style vibe. They are now available in so many colours, prints and textures, that adding a bucket hat to an outfit can really polish the whole look.

The last 2 years of lockdowns has seen fashion moving into a more relaxed style which will also play a part in the popularity of these hats.

I’ve been wearing my black Prada bucket hat with colourful prints and oversized sweaters, with casual loungewear and a pair of air force 1 or Nike Jordan sneakers. Because it’s in a classic black colourway, it’s perfect to add to any outfit, whereas with a patterned version you might be slightly more restricted in what you pair it with. I definitely want to invest in more colours, as well as into other designer brands and have fun styling them. In particular, I’m loving the selection at Dior and Fendi with their classic logo prints. A fully colour co-ordinated look would also be amazing and something I want to try out for a full matching colour aesthetic.

Broderie Anglaise: The style to be wearing this Summer

This Summer is having a major moment with Broderie Anglaise. Neons, Tie dye, satin skirts – there have been a few things to be seen in recently and these are the sort of trends that don’t stay around for long and you end up sick of the sight of them. However, Broderie Anglaise is something that will equally be as wearable for future Summers to come which makes it something to invest in. It’s a classic and stylish fabric that is just perfect for the warmer months of the year.

What is Broderie Anglaise?

Broderie Anglaise translates as ‘English Embroidery’ and is a material that has a real history to it – from as early as the late 1800s and it still looks amazing today. It incorporates embroidery, cutwork and needle lace to make delicate, romantic pieces that are lightweight and effortlessly stylish. It’s a really pretty, feminine material which I’m loving wearing at the moment and I’ve been seeing some amazing pieces on the high street.

It’s also the perfect fabric to dress up an outfit, as well as being worn in a casual relaxed outfit so its a really easy style to get involved in.

Shopping for Broderie Anglaise clothing

ASOS and Topshop have some excellent Broderie Anglaise pieces this season, from puff sleeve blouses to pretty dresses, playsuits to jumpsuits and gorgeous skirts or shorts. Its a material that works well in so many silhouettes so you are guaranteed to find something that is perfect for your own personal style.

The majority of the stores are starting their Summer sale periods so now is an excellent time to pick up some pieces for a reduced price.

Mix it up in your wardrobe

Don’t just think of this as just a white or neutral material. It looks amazing in bright shades, pretty pastels, as well as black or navy and I’ve even seen some gorgeous colourful Broderie Anglaise items that will look fabulous on a sunny day. It’s also something you could wear easily to work, or for a day out in the City, just as easily as going for a casual weekend brunch.

As you can tell, I am a huge fan already. I’ve done the shopping for you and picked out some of the best favourite Broderie Anglaise items that are available at the moment, from both high street budgets to some more high end pieces.

Boohoo.com Slogan T-shirts – the easy to wear trend that I am loving

Slogan t-shirts have been having a moment for a while now and if you follow me on Instagram you will know that I have a slight obsession with them! They are such an easy go to item in your wardrobe which you can wear as either part of a casual weekend outfit, or as a stylish dressed up evening look. I personally like to pair them with denim such as jeans or a distressed skirt – or even with a matching denim co-ord which is also one of my latest favourite trends at the moment. They are also really easy to throw over a pair of cycling shorts or leggings for a quick and stylish look.

Practically every store you go into at the moment will have more than one slogan t-shirt design to choose from. There is literally something for everyone and you can wear these depending on your mood on the day which I love. This could be anything from sassy sayings, to cute words, or place names. The choices are endless. My personal favourite selection this month is from Boohoo.com as they have a good range of colours and really cute quirky slogans. All of their t-shirts are so affordable as well, so this is such an easy trend for anyone add into their wardrobe, knowing that they will create a great outfit easily.

Boohoo.com are offering 20% discount this Bank Holiday weekend also – just enter code GOGOGO when you check out and the discount will be applied to your order.
