How to decorate your Christmas tree differently this year

Getting the Christmas decorations out and putting up the tree, making my home look all festive is one of my favourite things to do every year. I personally don’t like to get them up too early as it makes it feel like a long wait for the actual day, but I have put mine up this weekend and I’m so excited about it!

I’ve been spotting some amazing ‘non traditional’ tree decorations and baubles recently and this is such a fun idea to have something different to previous years, creating a decorated tree that is unique and special to you.

If you are also thinking about having unusual and quirky decorations on your tree this year for a change, I have found THE BEST places to find fabulous baubles that will make your tree really stand out. I’ve picked out my favourites for you in today’s festive inspired blog post.

Choosing a theme

First of all, it’s a good idea to decide if you want to have a particular theme for your decorations and to buy baubles that will work well with it. I will list my top 4 themes below. You could also choose a particular colour pallet that you like and choose your decorations based around that.

1. Fashion Lovers

For the fashionistas, there are some really gorgeous baubles that will be just perfect for this particular theme. I really love this idea myself and would love to have a tree decorated with fashion related baubles. You could decorate your tree with cute miniature shopping bags, high heels, lipsticks, glasses, and I’ve even found a bauble of the famous Vogue editor Anna Wintour available at Selfridges Simply fabulous darling..or AbFab even!

If you want to take this theme to the next level, you can even get little fashionista angels to add to the top of the tree! I love these gorgeous angel toppers by De Carlini – These are also stocked in John Lewis.

2. Food & drink Lovers

This theme is probably one of the most fun options to try as there are so many food and drink related baubles available out there. Choose from sweet treats like popcorn and donuts, or bottles of pink gin or champagne to name a few. Any foodie will appreciate a tree decorated with their favourite treats and it’s a great way to have a Christmas tree with a twist!

3. London Brittania

This is a fab theme if you love visiting London or if you live in the city. Incorporate Union Jack flag baubles, with iconic red London phone boxes, or add street signs along with classic London landmarks. Fortnum and Mason have an amazing selection of British themed decorations such as tea cups and their famous hamper baskets which are just gorgeous.

4. Animals

This theme would appeal for all ages, and I’ve found some really lovely animal related baubles. If you like a bright and fun tree, you could have a tropical style with parrots, flamingos and have a really stand out display. If you have a monochrome theme, why not include some zebras into the mix!

Myza – the go to store for getting a fabulous night sleep

We spend around one third of our lives sleeping and it’s one of the most important things for maintaining our health and wellbeing. I’m one of those people that needs a full 8 hours a night to be able to function properly. As soon as I come home from work, I am straight into my pyjamas. I feel that it’s important to relax as much as possible in the evening ready for a good nights sleep. There is literally nothing nicer than treating yourself to a brand new luxury set of nightwear or loungewear. And isn’t it just the best feeling when you stay in a boutique hotel and there is a fluffy dressing gown waiting for you! This is really easy to recreate that little bit of luxury in your own home for every day.

I recently came across the website Myza and they specialise in gorgeous products that are all designed for creating a lovely relaxing sleep. Just looking through the website makes me feel chilled out! There is something for everyone on here, whether its a treat for yourself or a beautiful gift for someone else. If you know someone who has been stressed out lately or perhaps a pregnant friend or someone who has been having trouble sleeping, what a thoughtful gift that would be to make a little package of items to help them relax better!

Nightwear

There are some really pretty Pyjama sets and gorgeous cosy dressing gowns to choose from by various designers. I particularly like the Nightire collection as the bold prints and designs are just my kind of style. There are classic pyjama outfits as well as cute little short versions and so you have an option for if it is warmer or for a colder time of the year. If you want something really luxurious though, there is also a beautiful silk range by the brand Ronja which is really chic.

Body Products

What better way to relax before going to sleep than having a relaxing pampering session? You guys know me and I love skincare and body products and I’m impressed by the varied selection on Myza. There are a variety of brands with products ranging from face masks, soothing body oils, lotions and creams.  Again, there is a great section to choose beautiful gifts in this section. I particularly like the 1001 remedies set which you can find HERE.

The majority of the beauty products contain natural ingredients that help to aid a relaxing experience which sounds heavenly.

Cosy Homewear

Of course the other best way to relax is with beautiful bedding and cosy comforting linens or pillows. Especially now we are moving into the colder seasons, you cannot beat lovely warm blankets to curl up in and watch a good Netflix series or two! I love buying things for my home so this is a really nice way to get something functional that also looks good and accessorises your bedroom or lounge.

Accessories

If you just want to try out a little item as a treat then there are a lot of really lovely accessories to choose from. I absolutely love the eye masks I am going to have to get one of these for myself. They are made from 100% silk which will feel beautiful and cool against the delicate eye area. Also it’s well known that silk helps to reduce the pulling of the skin, which in turn helps to reduce the creation of wrinkles. This particular accessory would also be fabulous for a flight or long train journey somewhere.

I am also really intrigued by the selection of relaxing teas. I can just imagine having one of these in the evening with a nice book before settling down for a gorgeous relaxing sleep. Divine.

New items that you will love from Zara Home

There is something quite serene about shopping in a Zara home store. Is it the beautiful smell of diffusers and candles that greet you as you walk in the door? Or perhaps it is because everything is neatly grouped together by colour tones which definitely helps to make my inner OCD happy. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but it is addictive and it pulls me in every time!

I had a stroll around London’s Regent street this week in the sunshine and was drawn into the Zara homewear store. I was inspired and just had to let you all know about the new items that are now available. I really like this particular store as it has the most gorgeous marble and gold central spiral staircase which spans over 3 floors.

The bed linen is one of my favourite things in Zara home and in the entrance way was a beautifully made bed with a pretty spring floral print in dusky pink and lilacs. I must admit that Zara bed linen is slightly more expensive compared to other stores on the high street, but they do have a higher thread count which is a sign of a better quality material.

Sometimes I feel that it’s better to spend slightly more on items that you know you will get a lot of use out of over time and new smart fresh bedding is an instant mood lifter. Zara do have great mid season sales though and you can often grab a real bargain on bedding when it has been reduced.

Top of my wish list was a duvet cover with matching pillow case set which is in a Versace inspired mosaic print. The print is a light gold thread and looks really classy. I also seem to have a thing at the moment for palm or leaf print designs and I came across the perfect set for a pretty spring bedroom look.

There was a new range of diffusers which I really liked. I have a slight obsession with these and love to have them around my home. Not only do they look smart displayed as an accessory, but they add a nice scent to a room and are particularly great for hallways.

Zara accessories are super affordable and they always have a great selection of different styles and colours. If you are looking for a photo frame or little decorative item you will definitely find something that suits your own home style. A good tip is to keep your rooms and furniture a neutral colour and then use colourful accessories to lift the room. This way, you can change your accessories during the year to give your rooms a new look. Fresh, bright colours are perfect for the summer months and rich jewel tones look great over the Autumn/Winter months.
