Luxury fashion – the latest Chanel price increases

Chanel Fall-Winter 2020-2021 Paris

Any luxury addict will know that designer brands have several price increases during the year. However the latest price increases to hit the market have sent shock waves around the luxury fashion community.

What brands are affected?

Chanel has caused the biggest stir with their latest price increase and Louis Vuitton have since followed suit. Chanel are one of the more expensive luxury brands out there and it can be really disappointing when they put their prices up, especially if you have been saving for a while to get your hands on one of their iconic pieces.

It seems that is mainly the Chanel handbags and SLGs that have been affected by the recent prices increases and they actually decided to remove all handbag pricing on their website. The handbags are now showing as ‘prices available upon request’, meaning that you will now have to ask a sales assistant for advice and have no idea how much each piece is beforehand. Shoppers often like to know what they can expect to pay for items in advance, especially when they come with such a large price tag and we all know that the customer service for this brand is certainly not the most helpful or friendliest so this is going to put a lot of people off.

Now that these two brands have actioned their recent aggressive price increases, we can expect many other brands to follow and do the same unfortunately. So if you have your eye on something from another luxury brand, now would certainty be the time to buy to avoid being stung with a price increase down the line!

What styles are affected?

Louis Vuitton have increased the pricing across their full handbag line. Unfortunately many styles have been out of stock for weeks and even months so if you have been waiting for a long time to buy a particular style, you are now going to face a higher price than before while you remain waiting.

For Chanel, not all handbags seem to have been increased, however it’s mainly the iconic classic styles that have been hit with the new prices such as the 11.12 and 2.55, as well as Boy, Gabrielle, Chanel 19 bags – plus certain small leather goods. The Boy bags took less of a hit but this will be because they are not as in demand as they once were.

What do the price increases look like?

According to Purse Blog, the below are examples of the main price increases within Europe.

Why such large price increases?

We all know that businesses around the globe have been affected by the dreaded C word – the recent Covid 19 virus. Factories overseas closed halting production, stores have been closed for a couple of months, sales staff have been put on furlough, and Chanel is a brand that do not sell online. Why they decided not to do this is not clear exactly, but I feel it’s to reduce how accessible they are and to help minimise the distribution of the brand, making them appear to be more exclusive – such as Hermes, one of the most prestige brands out there. It could also be that Chanel have been a little backwards in their acceptance of modern technology and deciding to keep to the more traditional route of luxury selling.

Going back to the Covid 19 situation though – Chanel have issued a statement saying that this is not related to Covid 19 and purely part of their twice yearly increases as well as factoring fluctuating exchange rates. However this is the largest price increase that I have seen from the brand (some styles increasing by a whopping 25% !!) and it has been quite shocking, especially during such an uncertain time.

Chanel stressed that “any price increases are implemented only after careful consideration, and are necessary for the brand to continue investing to maintain its core standards of creativity and craft.”

Final thoughts..

I personally think the price increases were extremely high this time and they’ve come at the worst possible timing with everything going on in the world at the moment. The brands that have had such large pricing hikes are pushing customers further away and making it more difficult for a lot of people to be able to be able to buy from them. Perhaps this is part of their brand strategy which is a shame.

So, what do you think about these latest price increases?

Will it put you off buying from luxury brands?

The most luxurious sports accessories of the moment

Image: Pinterest

These luxurious sports accessories are a sure way for every fashionista to be able to exercise in style! From basketball to skiing, tennis to skateboarding, the leading fashion designers have got all sporting activities covered. It’s the start of a brand new year (as well as a new decade) and usually top of everyone’s New Years Resolution list is to up their fitness game, so what better way than to get started with some of these fabulous items:

1) Louis Vuitton volley ball

The Louis Vuitton Monogram volley ball, Priced at £1680, is a combination of leather and canvas in a patchwork effect, creating a playful spin on the characteristic Louis Vuitton Monogram. This comes with a bag in similar colours, which also features Monogram details.

2) Chanel Basket Ball

The Chanel basketball with Chanel inscription in the classic black and gold, even comes with it’s own carrying chain. Around £2,000

3) Burberry Yoga Mat

The monogram Burberry yoga Mat, priced at £320

4) Supreme Skateboards

Supreme skateboards, spring-summer 2019 collection

5) Chanel surfboard

There have been several versions of the Chanel surfboards produced over the last few years, priced at around £7000 and only available upon request.

6) Chanel Tennis racket

Who can remember that episode of ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ with Kris Jenner and her Chanel tennis equipment? This racket and matching ball set will definitely turn heads on the court!

7) Chanel Ski wear

It’s clear to see that Chanel are leaders in this trend and they have been adding their logo to a variety of sports equipment. Recently, we’ve seen Kylie Jenner all over Instagram dressed head to toe in her Chanel and Fendi ski-wear, covered in the monogrammed logos.

If sports equipment is not your thing, you can still get involved with this trend with designer swimwear or winter accessories for skiing such as these Chanel earmuffs which are absolutely stunning.

For hints and tips for buying luxury designer brands, head over to my recent blog post HERE.

I personally think this is such a fun way to link fashion and sports together in this way. Although I’m not too sure I would want to actually use the items considering how much they cost, and I would probably keep them as display items/collectors pieces instead as they are guaranteed to increase in value and become investments in the future. Either way, it’s making me want to get exercising and start my new year fitness regime!

Designer shopping at Bicester Village

Everyone loves finding a bargain, especially if it’s a luxury designer piece. If you’re a fashionista and into designer labels like I am, then you just have to visit the Bicester Village shopping outlet. I love spending a day there and you can find some absolute gems so it’s definitely worth visiting.

The Stores

Every time I have been to Bicester Village, there seems to be newly opened stores and they have over 160 premium and luxury brands to look around. The luxury stores range from Prada, Saint Laurent, Jimmy Choo, Balenciaga and more. Plus there is a giant Gucci store which has some amazing discounted items.

One of the other larger stores is Ralph Lauren and these two tend to be the busiest so I always aim to go to these at the beginning of my shopping trip as by the afternoon there can be queues to get inside them.

Throughout the year, there are often additional deals and sales on, so you can get even more money off of the already discounted prices which is amazing. They will often mention when they are doing these days on their website HERE so keep an eye out for those.

The outlet

Travelling from London Marylebone, the outlet is around a 45 minute train journey. I always tend to see other shoppers on the train and some people  actually take suitcases with them to carry home all of their shopping!

The outlet is not under cover like a regular shopping centre, it’s more like a designer shopping street, with each brand set in their own independent boutique store. The luxury stores have the same sort of feel to them as if you were in their London Bond Street branches, but with a reduction in the price from anything up to 60% off!

There are a few restaurants and cafes dotted around the outlet also so you can stop for lunch and snacks along the way. Again, these can tend to get quite busy during the day so I often try to have an early lunch there to avoid having to wait or queue. I would much rather have more time shopping!

I stared my recent trip to the Farmshop cafe for some delicious scones before I set off around the shops. This has a really lovely cosy barn feel to it.

Shopping tips for Bicester Village

Tip number 1 – My number one tip when visiting Bicester Village is to not plan what you want to buy. Just wait and see what they have on the day as they change their stock regularly and you just never know what is going to be there. So go with an open mind and you will not be disappointed.

Tip number 2 – is that if you like something, buy it there and then as if you go back later in the day, you cant guarantee it will still be there. It’ll probably be in one of those suitcases that you saw on the train there!

Tip number 3 – is to buy off season. It might be a cold Winters day when you are there, but if you find some gorgeous summer sandals, sunglasses or bikinis, it’s the perfect time to pick them up while you are there and definitely cheaper than if you try to buy them in the following June. Likewise,if you go in the Summer time, look out for Winter jackets – especially at Burberry for some amazing deals.

Tip number 4 – is to look for Christmas or birthday gifts when you are there. There are some fabulous bits you can pick up like candles from the White Company, stylish small leather goods at Smythson or Mulberry, underwear/pyjamas from Calvin Klein, or pretty jewellery at Links of London just to name a few!

Hopefully you have found this post useful if you are planning a trip to Bicester Village soon. Leave a comment below to let me know what bargains you have bought there before.

Myza – the go to store for getting a fabulous night sleep

We spend around one third of our lives sleeping and it’s one of the most important things for maintaining our health and wellbeing. I’m one of those people that needs a full 8 hours a night to be able to function properly. As soon as I come home from work, I am straight into my pyjamas. I feel that it’s important to relax as much as possible in the evening ready for a good nights sleep. There is literally nothing nicer than treating yourself to a brand new luxury set of nightwear or loungewear. And isn’t it just the best feeling when you stay in a boutique hotel and there is a fluffy dressing gown waiting for you! This is really easy to recreate that little bit of luxury in your own home for every day.

I recently came across the website Myza and they specialise in gorgeous products that are all designed for creating a lovely relaxing sleep. Just looking through the website makes me feel chilled out! There is something for everyone on here, whether its a treat for yourself or a beautiful gift for someone else. If you know someone who has been stressed out lately or perhaps a pregnant friend or someone who has been having trouble sleeping, what a thoughtful gift that would be to make a little package of items to help them relax better!

There are some really pretty Pyjama sets and gorgeous cosy dressing gowns to choose from by various designers. I particularly like the Nightire collection as the bold prints and designs are just my kind of style. There are classic pyjama outfits as well as cute little short versions and so you have an option for if it is warmer or for a colder time of the year. If you want something really luxurious though, there is also a beautiful silk range by the brand Ronja which is really chic.

Body Products

What better way to relax before going to sleep than having a relaxing pampering session? You guys know me and I love skincare and body products and I’m impressed by the varied selection on Myza. There are a variety of brands with products ranging from face masks, soothing body oils, lotions and creams.  Again, there is a great section to choose beautiful gifts in this section. I particularly like the 1001 remedies set which you can find HERE.

The majority of the beauty products contain natural ingredients that help to aid a relaxing experience which sounds heavenly.

Cosy Homewear

Of course the other best way to relax is with beautiful bedding and cosy comforting linens or pillows. Especially now we are moving into the colder seasons, you cannot beat lovely warm blankets to curl up in and watch a good Netflix series or two! I love buying things for my home so this is a really nice way to get something functional that also looks good and accessorises your bedroom or lounge.

If you just want to try out a little item as a treat then there are a lot of really lovely accessories to choose from. I absolutely love the eye masks I am going to have to get one of these for myself. They are made from 100% silk which will feel beautiful and cool against the delicate eye area. Also it’s well known that silk helps to reduce the pulling of the skin, which in turn helps to reduce the creation of wrinkles. This particular accessory would also be fabulous for a flight or long train journey somewhere.

I am also really intrigued by the selection of relaxing teas. I can just imagine having one of these in the evening with a nice book before settling down for a gorgeous relaxing sleep. Divine.

What are your favourite products to use when you want to relax or have a good pampering session? Leave a comment below as I would love to hear about them!

An afternoon at Jo Malone

The iconic branded cream box, wrapped in black grosgrain ribbon and the crisp black tissue paper inside that has been spritzed with one of their beautiful scents. This is just one of my favourite parts of shopping at Jo Malone. Known for their elegance and style, Jo Malone is a British brand, specialising in fragrance, candles and beautiful, body products.

I spent such a lovely afternoon at the Brighton store this weekend trying out the products. You are always welcomed by such friendly and professional staff in Jo Malone stores and it really adds to the whole high end, luxury shopping experience. In the middle of the store there is a table displaying samples of each scent for you to try and let me tell you, choosing a favourite is no easy task.

We were seated at the back section of the store which was decorated in the usual monochrome styling that they are so well recognised for. My mum and I were treated to a complimentary glass of British sourced bubbly and a beautiful hand and arm massage testing out a selection of products. The staff are so knowledgeable and it was really interesting to learn about the huge range of scents and ingredients that are available. Even the names of the scents are fabulously decadent – how could anyone be able to resit smelling of Lime Basil & Mandarin, Orange Blossom, or Peony & blush suede?!

Overall we both felt amazing when we left the store with our new goodies. My skin felt soft, pampered and smelled gorgeous. I learned today that using a body cream together with a perfume layered on the top makes such a difference and a much longer lasting scent. You can also mix and match different fragrances to create your own bespoke design as the scents work together rather than clashing.

I chose a body and hand wash in one of Jo Malone’s best selling classic scents Pomegranate Noir. This is the description that can be found on their website for this particular product which is absolutely divine:

Our refreshing Body & Hand Wash with meadow foam seed gently cleanses and deliciously scents your skin with enigmatic Pomegranate Noir. Ruby-rich juices of pomegranate, raspberry and plum are spiked with pink pepper and laced with Casablanca lily and spicy woods. The enhanced formula helps leave body and hands feeling conditioned and soft. Its crystal clear gel transforms into a rich lather and its uplifting fragrance fills the bathroom, immersing you in delicate scent.

For those who haven’t shopped at Jo Malone before, you can full their full collection here.

Have you are already Jo Malone fans, have you got a favourite scent or product? Let me know in the comments section below – I would love to hear what you use!
