How to keep busy when self isolating

The last few weeks have been crazy. Many of us are now self isolating, staying at home and away from people as much as possible due to the Coronvirus. I’m usually quite a homebody and enjoy spending time at home, but after being indoors for over a week now, with the exception of trips to the supermarket, cabin fever has started to kick in. Instead of letting it get to me, as it’s worrying enough at the moment with the news unfolding daily, I am going to focus on using this time positively and proactively.

The work emails are getting fewer by the day as I work in the wholesale fashion industry during the week and all of the major high street stores are closing down for the foreseeable. So I wanted to put together today’s blog post to let you know what I plan to do over the next few weeks when self isolating, to keep myself busy, focused and calm. Hopefully this will help and give you some tips if you are starting to feel bored at home.

Spring Clean

Seeing as we are officially in Spring now, a Spring clean seems like a great idea. I will be sorting out my wardrobe and starting to move the Winter pieces out to make room for the lighter Spring/Summer clothes. If you would like a more in depth guide on how to do this, check out my previous blog post HERE. I will also work my way through my home, de-cluttering cupboards and shelves, my make up collection, re-organising everything and getting rid of things I no longer need or use.

Blogging

Now is a better time than ever to work on my blog and to really enjoy writing pieces again. I can go through stages where I lose my mojo for writing but I’m excited to put together some great new content and to be creative over the next few weeks. Writing is also very therapeutic and helps to take my mind of things which is perfect for when self isolating.

Watching a new Netflix series

I love a good box set and I plan to watch new some Netflix series. Last Summer my boyfriend and I watched the whole series of Game of Thrones which was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. We have been joking that we should have saved it for this year! Here are some of my favourite Netflix series –

  • Breaking bad
  • Ozarks
  • Bates Motel
  • Stranger Things
  • Black Mirror
  • Peaky Blinders
  • Happy Valley
  • Line of Duty
  • Ab Fab
  • The Boys (Amazon Prime)

Leave me a comment below with any series that I can add to my list!

Home workouts

Seeing as the gyms are now closed down, we can still workout at home. I’m not a huge fan of exercise myself but I plan on finding some YouTube videos so I can do some exercise at home. There are so many options on there to choose from. I’m thinking of Yoga which will also help with keeping calm and relaxed. While we are still allowed out, I am also going for walks near to my home as well as in the woods, away from others but surrounded by nature and fresh air which is important.

Planning

I love a to do list and always have a lot of things in the back of my mind that I want to do but end up putting off. Now is an amazing time to make those plans and act on them. You might have a room in your house that you want to re-decorate, you might want to get some new artwork to go on your walls, or change your bedroom around into a better layout. You might even want to start a blog yourself or learn a new language which you can do online! Everyone has things that they have been thinking about doing so be proactive and look into working on them now.

Self Care

During this time spent at home I am really going to concentrate on self care. Nail salons and hairdressers are closed so I will be looking after my nails myself, doing my own pedicures, tanning, upping my skincare routine and keeping myself feeling as glam as possible whilst being at home. It’s very tempting to lounge around in pyjamas but try not to do this as you won’t feel at your best.

I’m currently trying out the latest Pixi Beauty Milky skincare collection which I’m really enjoying so look out for a future blog review post on this. You can check out a previous Pixi skincare review of mine HERE.

I hope you find these tips helpful – let me know what you plan on doing over the next few weeks of self isolation.

How to de-clutter your wardrobe for the new Winter season

Now that we are officially in Autumn/Winter and the weather is getting colder, it’s the perfect time to de-clutter your wardrobe! Not all of us are blessed with a dressing room or rows and rows of wardrobe space. Some of us even have to share wardrobe space with our partner. So a good tip to manage the space that you have affectively is to do a seasonal clear out. Here are my top tips on how to do this.

Get started

Ok lets get going girl! You are going to feel so organised when this has been sorted. First things first, get everything out of the wardrobe and group it into sections. All knitwear into one pile, all jeans into another etc – this will make it easier to see everything that you have to go through.

Evaluate what you have

You need to be ruthless and really look at each piece with a level head. Ask yourself if you still love each item and if you will wear it again. Anything you’re not sure about, try it on. Does it still fit? If it doesn’t, there is no point hanging on to it. Does it still look as good as new or are the threads getting loose or starting to bobble? If it is, you know the drill – move it into the pile of things to be removed.

Have a look at your accessories too when making the decisions on whether to keep or remove each item. You might get inspired for a fresh new way to accessorise an outfit.

Any items that are going to be too warm or too cold to wear in the current season but you want to keep it, put these into storage bags, neatly folding everything. You can get these out next season and see if you still want to keep them or not.

If anything still has the tags on it (we are all guilty of this) then it’s likely you don’t really want the item anymore. Keep the tags on as this always helps when selling clothes online.

Organise

Now that you have decided what you are going to keep, its time to put them back into the wardrobe. A good tip is to either group the items in categories, so all of the tops together, sweaters all together etc. Alternatively hang up the clothes grouped together in outfits. This is a good idea if you have to wake up early for work and don’t want to have to think too much about what to wear – the hard work has already been done for you!
Another good tip is to hang all of your clothes with the hangers facing the same way. When you have worn something, hang it back up with the hanger facing the opposite way. This will really show you what items you have been wearing. If something is still unworn for a long period of time, ask yourself if you really still need it. It’s said that we only wear 20% of our clothes which is such a crazy figure compared to what most of us have in our wardrobe!

Keep, Sell & Donate

Work out from the pile that you don’t want, which items you can potentially sell and make some money back on. There are lots of places you can sell items, such as Ebay, Depop and Facebook local selling pages. Price them fairly – no one is going to pay full price for second hand clothes, even if they are unworn. Also, make sure anything you sell is in a decent condition and isn’t stained.
Anything else can be donated to local charity shops or to friends. Perhaps you could even organise a clothes swapping party where everyone takes a couple of items that they no longer want and you can get the chance to swap with others!

Make a list of what you need to buy

This is my favourite part! As you have now organised everything that you want to keep you can start planning new items to buy that you will need for the season. Do you need more basics to pair together the pieces you have?
Do you need a new pair of boots to replace the old ones that you removed? Write a list of the bits you can see you need and then you can get shopping!
I hope you enjoyed reading my tips on how to organise and de-clutter your wardrobe. I would love to see a photo of your wardrobe spaces and how fab they are now looking!
